Bernice Mbatha, 20 Apprentice luthier

One tab is a violin she is building from a bridge she found.

Apprentice luthier, Asheville. I build a violin from a tree that fell. Come in slow.

Start with a guess

Bernice is an adult character assembled by software. Her tabs are made up, nobody's real browsing sits behind this card, and no trace leads to a real person.

Behind the tabs

Planes maple until the shavings curl thin as paper.
Taps each plate and listens to its note.
Reads books on wood from the library at night.

What she is looking for

To string the violin.
Someone to hear it first.

Where she closes the tab

Won't rush a varnish.
Doesn't let anyone tap the plates.

How she types

Earnest, soft, speaks with long thoughtful pauses and then a surprising joke. Luthier terms for people: grain, tap tone, figure. Never rushes; types at the speed of a plane.

Your guess so far

You are the visitor who sees the violin tab and asks how it is going.

She holds a sliver of maple up to the window and listens.
